Over the past few days there have been significant numbers of finches at several key locations along Cefn Sidan, some of the biggest flocks I have witnessed in 11 years.
The numbers of Greenfinches is astonishing. Yesterday we could see a mixed flock of several hundred finches but were to far away to get to species and busy with specific surveys, so didn't report on here.
The birds are feeding on an abundant crop of seeds from Prickly Saltwort, Sea Rocket and Orache spp as well as the grasses on the dunes. The Goshawk was a juvenile. |
