Ian Morgan, Anywhere in Carms

Lesser Spotted Woodpecker 1
NOT a record: My annual request to listen out (March/April is peak season) for the more rapid drumming or the kestrel-like `kek-kek` call of territorial birds. If you google `lesser spotted woodpecker calls drumming`, they can be heard online. I used to see them pretty consistently in my local woods (Stradey Woods & elsewhere) in the past. Recent Carms records only from near Llandeilo & near Llangadog. Try old woodland, parkland (eg Parc Dinefwr) or riverside old alders etc.

Black-headed Gull 1
At a time of arrivals, a departure. For the last 5 years a BH gull has become progressively tame when I discard spare bits of bread etc. It has consistent habits that enables me to individually identify it, even when a few other BHGs are around. This bird – and the others – have now gone (24 Feb), presumably on the start of their journey (perhaps in stages) back to their E European (?) breeding areas.
