Jamie the “Scaup type”, Duck at SWP looked very much like the real deal,but the bill pattern gave it away as a Tufted Duck.Scaup would only sow the small oval area (the nail) at the tip of the bill as black,this bird also had blackish colour running around the front of the bill also a pale area was visible above this black rim near the sides of the bill.I hope this clears it up for you a little.Bill colour is important in Duck identification and often is clarification of a hybrid influence |
