Urban kites: I`ve wondered previously about the regularity of kites above the urban areas of Llanelli, speculating that they must go there as there`s food or prey in that area. This morning, I glanced up to see a low-flying kite being noisily mobbed by a jackdaw, with a carrion crow joining in seconds later. I then noticed that the kite had caught a jackdaw, presumably a young bird of the year. The literature states that corvids (with young in the majority) comprise 39% of birds taken in summer. |
