A scarce visitor, mostly in winter. Mainly recorded at wetland sites or on the extensive burrows and saltmarshes around Carmarthen Bay.

Male, regularly seen, Laugharne Burrows – Witchett Pool area, throughout the year. Male and female or immature seen, Witchett Pool, 16 January; a female or immature, there 13 February. Presumably one of the above, Pendine 20 January and a male, Tywyn Point, 13 February.
Adult male regular, Laugharne Burrows/Witchett Pool for second successive year. Presumably same, Pembrey, 13 January. Female or immature male, Laugharne, 10 March; adult male, Ffrwd Fen, Pinged, 2 December.
Adult male still regular Witchett Pool area. Male flying West over Garn Goch, Bethlehem 14 April.
Male, resident Witchett Pool vicinity since 1983, not seen after late March. Male, near Pembrey, 13 January; Bishop’s Pond, Abergwili, 2 February; near Llandeilo 3 April and 29 May; female, Ffrwd Fen Reserve, 8 November.
Male, Pembrey Burrows, 9th, 15th; Pembrey Saltings, 17th; Laugharne Burrows, January; Pembrey Saltings, 8 March; female, Salmon Scar Point, 15 May. Male, regular, Llandeilo area (where first seen in April/May), 1986, from 17 March-14 June. 2 males, Morfa Cydweli, 27th, one, Pembrey Harbour, 29 December.
Singles, Llangennech, 15 May; Commissioners’ Bridge, Cydweli, 10 June.
Female, Witchett Pool, early May.
Adult, Penclacwydd 24/25 March juv 3rd & 4th and possibly same bird 10 & 27 August an adult female 26/27 October. Single near Hendy 28 May; female Pembrey Country Park and same bird Ffrwd Fen 24 November.
There were two records; Bynea juvenile on 31st August and Morfa-uchaf Ferryside female on 18th October. Recorded annually since 1990.
There were three sightings (2 in 1992). An adult male was at Witchett Pool on 9th May and immature s were at Penclacwydd on 27th August and 28th September.
There were two records (3 in 1993). A female was at Penclacwydd on 22nd April and another female was at Witchett Pool on 11th September.
There were eight records of a minimum of 4 birds (2 in 1994). An adult male was at Witchett Pool on 23rd March and again on 22nd April Females were at the same site on 11th May, 28th August and 21st September. A female was at Pembrey Salting’s on 6th Aug and there were two records of a female at Penclacwydd on 12th and 15th November.
There were 3 records of female birds in the spring: at Penclacwydd on5th April, at Ffrwd Fen on 22nd April, and at Witchett Pool on 8th May. A male was at Witchett Pool on 2nd December.
There were 2 records: a male at Ffrwd Fen on 22nd March and a female at Penclacwydd on 4th August.
There was 1 at Witchett Pool on 11th May, a female east of Llandovery on 21st whilst at Penclacwydd, a male was seen on 4th September, and an immature female from 1st to 15th October and 30th – 31st .
Three records of possibly one, female bird: 18th to 23rd April at Penclacwydd; 23rd August at Machynys and 24th to 29th August, again at Penclacwydd.
All records from Penclacwydd: singles, unsexed, on 23rd February and 16th May, a female from 10th August to 10th September and another unsexed single on 16th October According to Birdguides, the bird on 16th May was a female.
Singles as follows: Female Kidwelly Quay April 9th, Penclacwydd August 18th, female Ffrwrd Fen April 24th, Juvenile Kidwelly September 1st and female there September 8th.
Sub adult male Carmarthen March 1st, first summer male Banc y Lord April 6th, female/1st summer male Coedbach/Gwendaeth May 15th, juvenile Kidwelly Quay August 5th and Penclacwydd August 13th — 19th.
