Resident. Distinct but loose colonies nest around suburban areas of the larger towns, in villages, quarries and coastal cliffs.

A roost at the sewage farm in Bynea held c2000 birds on 11th October.

Account of c.600 was made at Pembrey Airfield on 21st September.

Thirty five pairs bred on the cliffs of Carreg Lymsi, Rhandirmwyn.

The largest flocks comprised 500 birds at Cynghordy on 16th February and 200 alongside the ‘Factory Road’, Pembrey on 24th January. Upper Loughor highest count was 72 in November.

At the Gwenffrwd/Dinas Reserve around 20 birds resident, supplemented by immigrants at time of oak defoliation. Much scarcer as a breeder than 15 years ago, with old crag haunts now largely deserted. A roost of 120 at Cynghordy on 28th April. 260 in August in Upper Loughor.

Up to 400 were roosting at the Goodig, Burry Port from January – March. Other high counts were 250 in October and November and 200 in July at Penclcawydd and 114 in October in Upper Loughor.

Counts included a pre-roost gathering of c 700 at Dafen on 7th February and a flock of 600 at Broad Oak on 6th September. October and November had counts of 145 and 100 respectively in Upper Loughor.

There was a winter roost of 400 at Gwdig, Burry Port.

A gathering of 200 at Pentrepoeth, Idole on 29th March. High counts in Upper Loughor included 200 in September and 159 in January.

“June 21: returned home at 1800. The house looked like the set of a Hitchcock film. 30-40 Jackdaws were perched on roof and decking rail as we drove up” This report was from Ffrwd Melin, Pentrecwrt. There were 100 at Pwllau, Taliaris on 25th August, and 300 there on 2nd November.

Four gatherings: 80 Pwllau, Taliaris on 18th February; c50 at Ffosddu on 29th June; 49 back at Pwllau, Taliaris on 1st August and 400/500 at Ferryside on 25th. 65 in May in Upper Loughor
